TGZ:
Hail!! Tell us about the first chapter (formation
and goals) of bloodwritten’s borning
in the scenery. |
Dave
Sanchez:
At first Bloodwritten only had a three song
demo that included the three darkness tracks;
The reason being was that our session drummer
and I were going on a 9 week Euro tour with
a band he was in at the time so production
on the other songs was stopped short. After
we got back I went in my studio and did not
come out until the first cd was complete.
|
TGZ:
Interesting name, Bloodwritten. Could you
explain the resoans that push you to this
name idea? |
Dave
Sanchez:
Our name actually came from our first session
soloist; he said that if he did another death
metal project he wanted to call it Bloodwritten.
A good name is hard to think of and that was
better than anything I could come up with.
|
TGZ:
Do you Know that there is a Bloodwritten
(Black/Death Metal) in Poland? Don’t
you think that this could be a problem? |
Dave
Sanchez:
Yes, I know about them. I figure neither one
of us is signed to a major label so fuck it.
There must be quite a lot of the same situation
around the world anyway, no big deal. If we
lived in the same area that might be a problem
but that is not the case.
|
TGZ:
Are the band lyricly influenced by lord
Byron? How much? |
Dave
Sanchez:
The first three song demo used a lot of the
Darkness poem but after that Neil Harrison,
a friend from the scene help us with original
material.
|
TGZ:
The debut CD We live in Darkness (2000) was
released in an independent way? Why there
is two different covers of the album in the
website?(Or, was just my mistake?) |
Dave
Sanchez:
All of our stuff is independent. We Live…
kept evolving as I got more people involved;
some have different song lengths and the alternate
cover. As I got more experience in my studio
a remix was made that was a huge improvement
over the initial recording.
|
TGZ:
The split with the horde, Iskariot, in
2002 had the same promotion of the debut? |
Dave
Sanchez:
Yes
it does. I played bass for Iskariot and they
were looking to take advantage of some free
studio time. Since Bloodwritten’s second
release was not quite finished yet we thought
it would be a good idea to do a split.
|
TGZ:
In 2003 was released the second álbum,
Everything Beautiful Dies, This happened in
an independent way? Why? |
Dave
Sanchez:
We had a few problems with that release due
to data loss on my computer in the studio.
That entire cd is recovered from an old hard
drive. I wanted to keep moving forward so
I worked with what I could salvage.
|
| |
TGZ:
Tell us more about the repercussion of
“Everything Beautiful Dies” in
the communications. |
Dave
Sanchez:
I can remember getting a complaint from some
looser on our guestbook at our dot com site.
One of the funniest things I have ever heard,
he said it was in bad taste. How funny is
that? I personally like the title and think
that the design with Sharon Tate is very fitting.
|
TGZ:
Bloodwritten has participations and some compilations.
Could you quote them and also give your opinian
about the meaning of this participations. |
Dave
Sanchez:
We have been on Camp Fury: Base Camp Compilation
1 (2004), JCM Compilation: Fundamentally Loathsome
(2004), Deadtide/SOD: Magazine Blood In The
Water Comp (2002), Deadtide/SOD Magazine:
Blood In The Water II Comp (2003), The Anaites
Comp. Vol. 2 (2006). I think doing compilations
is one of the best things that a band can
do and I am grateful to have had the chance
to be on the ones previously mentioned.
|
TGZ:
By the way, the fresh one, was in the
brazilian compilation Anaites Vol II. How
was going the contact with the brother Hioderman
Zartan?
|
Dave
Sanchez:
Hioderman
was in contact with us and I jumped at the
chance to get more exposure in South America.
He was a pleasure to work with and was understanding
with regards to the payment issues we encountered.
We definitely look forward to another collaboration.
|
TGZ:
Do you think that the third album is
taken a long time to be released? A lot dificult
in the band’s way? Split with us. |
Dave
Sanchez:
It is taking much longer than expected. During
the first set of recording we lost another
drummer which kind of slowed things down for
me writing the rest of the material. Tim Haisman,
our session drummer, came to my rescue yet
again where all others have failed so the
drum tracks are all finished. I am just now
recovering from a broken hand from six weeks
ago and my studio has upgraded a lot of equipment
some of which is still on order. I have also
taken on two new side projects that are taking
up a lot of time because they are just getting
started. All that is left are some guitar
tracks and vocals so we are almost finished,
But I think Heathen Gods of Old is some of
our best material to date and is well worth
the wait.
|
TGZ:
The Bloodwritten is very well-known
in the american underground, since that you
guys (besides everything) do a lot of shows,
Am I right? |
Dave
Sanchez:
We go through stages because we are always
rotating drummers. Right now I do not have
a live player, our session player has always
been there but not for shows.
I would say that we do pretty well considering
all the lineup changes. Playing live is what
we enjoy the most so we do it as much as possible.
|
TGZ:
How do you see the death metal scene
in USA? |
Dave Sanchez:
Metal is slowly making a comeback here in
the states. Pop, grunge, and hip hop have
been the dominate sellers in the past decade
and that is how people view success. Success
for me is seeing people’s interest in
what we do at shows and on the web.
|
TGZ:
Still talk about the american scene,
we know that MTV infest and manufacturer a
lot of fashion... What your opinion about
this bands that they called new metal? |
Dave Sanchez:
I don’t care for it myself but it is
how Americans are hearing heavy music again.
At least these bands write their own material
and can actually play their own instruments.
Give it time and hopefully america’s
audience will demand more from their metal.
|
TGZ:
Talking in policy, what your opinion of the
George W. Bush administration? |
Dave Sanchez:
I don’t vote and in turn I don’t
bitch about political leader decisions or
actions. I am more of the opinion that G W
Bush is just a figurehead for the public,
actual decisions are made by the same group
that have always called the shots here. I
do support the war because I am tired of hearing
people bitch about their religion.
|
TGZ:
Already in this year, could we expect
the new Bloodwritten’s album? What will
be the title and how has going his development? |

Dave
Sanchez:
The
new cd is titled Heathen Gods of Old.
I just quit my job and plan to finish the
last two songs now that my hand has healed.
With the new studio monitors some remixing
of the four tracks already done will be required
but things are getting back on track.
Any new songs we have finished are available
at www.bloodwritten.com on the media page.
|
TGZ:
Ok, Sanchez, thanks a lot for the strenght
and sincerity with the serious engagement
in the Bloodwritten. Let yours last words
written with blood to liff up even more the
vein of the brazilian headbangers and in all
over the world.... |
Dave
Sanchez:
I
want to thank all the people over the years
that have supported us and metal music even
when it goes underground. And an even bigger
thanks to those that don’t because your
bad publicity is the best, it is what keeps
us alive. Our way of life will never die.
