Death Breath from Sweden (Stockholm)
that plays Death Metal for the maniacs, so
check this fucking great interview now !
\,,/
!
|
TGZ:
We know that redeeming the revolutionary
death metal scene? Isn't your intention, but
for a lots of hellbangers, DEATH BREATH was
a strong revelation in 2006. How do you feel
about that?
|
Robert:
I feel great about it, we really did this
for ourselves in the beginning, just for the
love of the music. But that people seem to
like
it is great!
|
TGZ:
Your debut album has been very praised. Did
the band get surprised with the excellent
receptivity from the critics? |
Robert:
Yeah, because in the process of making this
album I didn't really think about what people
would think of it and such. So when the reviews
started to pop up and all the interviews started
poring in, then I started realise a lot of
people were interested in Death Breath..
|
TGZ:
How are the DEATH BREATH gigs? Do you
have playing in high attendance? How the public
has responding? |
Robert:
You know, we only made on gig so far. We were
not sure if this would be a live act from
the beginning, but we had to see, so we booked
one show and flew over Scott Carlson from
LA to handle the bass and his part of the
vocals. We got Erik Wallin from Merciless
on second guitar, we also brought in Jörgen
to handle the vocals on the songs he performs
on the album. The response was stunning to
me, we sold out the show and there were like
750 people there. I really was overwhelmed.
The gig went very well and was a lot of fun
so we'll be doing this more, that's for sure.
|
TGZ:
Your self-entitled clip is very cool.
Seeing that, we can perceive you like classic
horror movies, like: ?Night Of The Living
Dead? and ? Zombie? Am I right? Do you have
plans to make another clips? |
Robert:
Thanks, yeah we all the old movies. Mtv in
Sweden even air the video, so we'll make more
of them. We actually discussed this just the
other day.
|
TGZ:
Like CARNAGE, CARBONIZED, DISMEMBER and other
bands from the ancient swedish underground
scene, DEATH BREATH has songs with heavy and
memorable riffs. Nowadays, death metal bands
seens to be just fast and brutal. Do you like
that kind of new death metal bands? |
Robert:
We'll, I haven't listened to the new bands
to tell the truth. I didn?t keep up with how
the scene developed when I first stopped playing
death metal. I just continued listening to
my old records. But I've been asked this question
in almost every interview so I have now spent
a little time on you tube and My Space just
to check some of these new bands out. I'm
not into it, I'm not against it, but it just
isn't my cup of tea.
|
TGZ:
Back to the topic about the DB impact
like a ?death metal revelation band?, Fenriz
from DARK THRONE has mentioned in interviews
that you are a great band. Do you have contact
with him? What do you think about DARK THRONE
sound?
|
Robert:
I liked them on Soulside Journey and I still
like them now, in fact Soulside, A blace and
their new album are my favourites with DT.
I don't know Fenriz, but he and Nicke know
each other since way back. It's really nice
to hear that he likes our record.
|
TGZ:
When did you start to listen to heavy metal,
and wich bands made you start to play in a
band, record your stuffs etc? |
Robert:
I went through all the usual bands I guess.
My brother got me into Kiss early on, then
I found Ac/Dc, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Iron
Maiden, Kreator, Metallica, Sodom and stuff
and it just went on from there. Then I found
Bathory and after that I found all these great
death metal and black metal bands. I was just
a kid back then and now I'm 32. Those bands
and of course a lot of other bands are the
reason I wanted to learn how to play guitar.
|
TGZ:
Tell us about the EP that was released
a little time ago. Are you satisfied with
the result? |
Robert:
I guess you are referring to the 'Let it Stink'
EP. It's been a bit delayed so it isn't out
just yet. But it got seven songs on it, so
it's a lot for an ep, also two videos on the
cd version. It's more brutal then the album,
like we wanted it.
|
TGZ:
The underground scene became surprised
with the suicide of the DISSECTION leader.
Did you have any contact with him? Can you
tell us about the impact of his death in the
swedish underground scene?
|
Robert:
I met Jon a couple of times way back in time,
we played the same bill and stuff like that,
he seemed like a really talented person to
me back then, a bit more serious then most
of the other guys. But no, I never knew him
personally. I can't tell you which impact
it has had on the scene to tell the truth.
|
TGZ:
Minutes before you go to the stage and play,
you are aborded by a person who wants you
define the DB sound. What should you say for
this guy?
|

Robert:
Death Metal.
|
TGZ:
If Wagner Antichrist from SARCÓFAGO
wants you show him a DB song, which one should
be?
|
Robert:
'Giving Head To The Dead'
|
TGZ:
Do you have plans to gig in South America?
What do you know about brazilian underground
scene (public, bands)? |
Robert:
I don't know at this time. We'd like to do
a bit of touring, but I don't know how much
will be possible. :We have all these other
bands and Scott lives in LA. But I know that
we will do as much as possible! Our Swedish
Nifelheim did a split with your mighty Vulcano,
that's great!
|
TGZ:
Thanks for the interview. Ask your last
words to brazilians DB fans!!!!
|
Robert:
Thanks for this interview, all the best to
you. And thanks to all you Brazilian metal
maniacs! Visit www.deathbreath.se
if you want to know more!
