TGZ:
How I don’t know the band’s history
i am gone ask you to resume the Whispering
Gallery career in the begining to nowadays. |
Reinier:
We started as a band in 1995 but the real
start was our first demo "gallery of
dreams" released in 1997. From here on
we were be able to do live shows and got a
record deal with Killerwhale Records for a
mini album and a full-length. The mini cd
"poems of a forgotten dream" was
released in 1999 followed by "like a
dream of never-ending beauty" in 2000.
We toured as special guests with Within Temptation
in Holland and did several shows as headliner
also. Our second full album "lost as
one" was released in 2002 by ourselfs.
We did some great festivals like the dutch
doom day, babypop, willems wondere weiland,
day at the cross, zware metalen fest and autumn
of doom fest. In spring 2005 we finished the
brand new album "shades of sorrow"
and signed a record deal with Greek label
Burning Star records. Shades of sorrow is
now released a few months ago.

TGZ:
I have to confess that it’s hard to
find a good band in doom metal nowadays. What’s
it the opinion of the whispering gallery about
the doom scene? |

Reinier:
Well the doom scene has never been quite big.
The leading bands are still the bands who
started the scene back in the late eighties
like Candlemass, My dying bride and Sollitude
aeturnus for example. Here in holland we have
several doom acts like Officium triste, morphia
and ofcource ourselves but not a big fan base.
It is difficult style, not as popular as death
metal. But the people who love doom metal
are very dedicated and devoted to the music
and that's what make it special.
|
TGZ:
What do you know about the brasilian
metal scene?Do you have any contacts? |
Reinier:
Whe don't have contacts with Brasilian bands.
I use to know Incubus (the death metal band)
and ofcource sepultura but who doesn't know
them?!
|
TGZ:
The Debut “Shades of Sorrow”
was released in last year december, would
you think to do a tour release? |
Reinier:
It would be great but it's very difficult
to do. We all have daytime jobs so it's not
easy to go on tour for a few months but a
little tour is alway possible. Our first priority
is our home country Holland and give as many
shows as possible.
|
TGZ:
I realized that you have a strong inflences
of Anathema, talk about the music influences
of whispering gallery, and what inspire you
when you are composing? |
Reinier:
All the band members have their own influences
and when we compose music it's mainly a mixture
of different styles but we all love the early
Anathema or My dying bride. We try not to
sound like clone of them and add different
styles of metal music in our music.
|
TGZ:
I don’t have a lot of contacts
in Holland, in matter of fact, I have none,
how is the scene in here? How about concerts?
How about bands? |
Reinier:
The metal scene in Holland is dominated by
gothic metal acts like Within Temptation and
After forever but we have also a big death
metal scene with bands like Gorefest and God
dethroned. Foreign bands often visit Holland
and there are mostly more than 10 concerts
(from big to small) each weekend. Also all
the big bands visit us regular and we have
some big festivals in the summer.
|
TGZ:
The Doom Metal make us travel for a lot schemer
atmospheres, make us reflect about unknown,
sometimes take us to places never explored
before, inside ours bodies and minds.... What
are the doom metal represents to you? |
Reinier:
You just reflect it very well. It is dark
and unknown journey with lots of depressing
atmospheres...but we try to include also some
positive vibes into our music, mostly in the
lyrics.

TGZ:
There is a band or a album that when
some of you heard it was fatefull to form
the band? If was possible quote 5 albuns that
you judge eternal and classics in Metal of
all years.
|
Reinier:
It is almost impossible for me to name 5 classic
albums cause there are so many of them but
let's try
somewhere in time-iron maiden/nightfall-candlemass/sceptics
apocalypse-agent steel/walls of jericho-helloween/spreading
the disease-anthrax. I must say that this
is a personal choice of mine.
|
TGZ:
The álbum was released in Europe for
the burning Star Records of Greece, am i right?
There is some kind of negotiation to release
this album in another continent? Are you enjoy
the burning star work? |
Reinier:
Yes, “Shades of Sorrow” is released
in europe by Burning star but they also made
some distribution deals in USA/Canada and
Japan for example. They are very commited
and devoted to make it all work no matter
how small they are. It is really some achievment
what they've acomplished so far. So we are
very satisfied.
|
TGZ:
At the oficial home page of the band,
could be found some material in mp3, among
this mp3s, it is the mcd “Poems of a
forgotten Dream”, was it released?Or
you guys put directly in the web?
|
Reinier:
Yes it was released in 1999 by Killerwhale
records. It is now sold out so we put the
entire album on the internet so everybody
can enjoy it.
|
TGZ:
About this material, It’s a kind
of Death/Doom Metal. Is it before or after
“Shades of Sorrow”? |
Reinier:
Like I said, it is released in 1999, so way
before shades...but somehow one or two songs
still made it in our set list....
|
TGZ:
What’s It the immediate and future
plans for the band? |
Reinier:
We try to promote shades... as much as possible
and we are planning a tour after the summer.
We are also working on some new material.
Writing new songs keeps us fresh and we must
look to the future. A new album can be expected
somewhere in 2007 hopefully!
|
TGZ:
Thanks For the attention, let your words
to the end... |
Reinier:
Keep visiting our website www.whisperinggallery.nl
and buy "Shades of sorrow"! It's
not a demand :)
Stay doom forever and enjoy your lives!
