TGZ:
In first place, introduce us to Fractal
Point and grant us a brief overview of its
career.
|

Guilherme: Well, the band was
created by Julien (the drummer) and me during
winter 1999. André, Carlo, and Olivier
joined forces with Fractal Point around a
year later. In 2002 we recorded our first
Mcd called "Analysis of Dimensions".
Just before the release of this record André
and Olivier left Fractal Point because they
were busy with activities outside the band.
Laurent and Antoine integrated Fractal Point
at this time and, in 2004, we entered the
studio to record our full length Cd "The
Bizarre Machinery of Universe".
|
TGZ:
Why the name Fractal Point? What does
it means? |
Guilherme: "Fractals"
are a mathematical concept which describes
a structure which is always coming back but
at different scales. The point, which indicates
a precise coordinate, represents the band,
in its philosophy, regarding the different
scales and structures that one can encounter
in the cosmos. Being also a mean to dimensional
expression as well as Cartesian coordinates,
the fractal point indicates, in the concept
of the band, a scale that only the music can
express.

TGZ:
Listening to your music we can notice
influences of Death and other bands of the
same style, in other words, there is a certain
"virtuousism" in the resonance.
When the band was created, did you already
had in mind to make this kind of music or
was it something that happened naturally? |
Guilherme: In fact we were not trying
to play a particular kind of music. We've
been listening to metal bands for many years,
but have always been open to other styles
like, classical, rock and Jazz. The choice
for a loud voice was made only because we
wanted something explosive regarding our concept,
wich turns around violent phenomena happening
in the universe.
|
TGZ:
"The Bizarre Machinery of Universe",
released in 2004, your debut? We know that
there were other releases such as MCDs. Tell
us some about them. |
Guilherme: Like I said, we recorded a
Mcd in 2002. It received a very enthusiastic
response from the public. In 2003 we recorded
a demo simply called "At the Beginning…".
We sent it to various labels and received
different proposals. We signed with the French
label "DeadSun records" wich gave
us the support to release "The bizarre
Machinery of Universe".
|
TGZ:
What are the lyrics about? Is the CD a concept
album? |
Guilherme: Yes! The title, "The
bizarre Machinery of Universe", describes
exactly the concept of this album. The first
song, "At the Beginning", is about
the creation of our Universe. The following
songs try to explain, (meta)physically, the
development of the primary energy that creates
everything in the known space. It's a mix
of fiction and science. We expect it to be
understandable to those who try diving in
Fractal Point's world...
|
TGZ:
Deadsun Records released "The Bizarre..."
in other countries besides France. Which ones? |
Guilherme: To be honest, we don't know
exactly. I just know that it was released
in almost every country here in Europe…
Anyone who wants to buy our Cd can visit our
web site and find some information on how
to do so.
|
TGZ:
There was the impression that the line-up
wasn't quite stable till a while ago. Is the
band definately complete now? |
Guilherme: In fact no. We are looking
for a new drummer. Julien left us because
he’s going to live in Finland. He was
not motivated to play in a metal band anymore
and was getting busier with his Web design
activities… We’re still very good
friends.
|
TGZ:
I believe that the best way to promote
a band is by performing live. Have you been
doing this? Is Fractal Point to participate
of any mainstream european festivals? |
Guilherme: We gave several
shows around Switzerland, and some in France
too. But all of us have activities that are
quite restrictive; everybody works and my
Math/Physics studies keep me very busy. But
as soon as our line-up is complete we'll try
to play more shows…
|
TGZ:
Speak about Metal Scene in your country. |
Guilherme: Switzerland has an excellent
metal scene. Bands like Celtic Frost, Coroner,
Samael and The Young Gods, opened paths that
local bands try to get in. We have very good
musicians but lack support and substructures
to allow young bands to record some material
and promote themselves. But I'm sure that
in the future, several Swiss bands will occupy
a place in the international Metal scene.
|
TGZ:
Some extreme bands from Brazil are known worldwide
such as Krisiun, Headhunter DC, Sepultura.
What do you know about the brazilian metal
scene and have you ever had any contact with
brazilian headbangers? |

Guilherme: Well, as my name indicates,
I'm Brazilian. So I have some contacts with
Brazilian Bands. In particular, we are friends
with "Eminence" a band with which
we have very good contacts because of their
great personalities. We met the guys of
Sepultura once or twice too. I think Brazil
is a country that has an enormous potential,
but some bands need to take their music
more seriously because the competition is
very hard in the Metal scene.
|
TGZ:
Which are the future plans for the band?
Any world tour planned? Make your final comments,
please. |
Guilherme: We have some new material
and we’re studying plans for a new album.
We hope to be able to play a European tour,
and maybe even some dates in Brazil. So keep
tuned… Thank you for this interview
and maybe see you at one of our shows…
